Bengaluru, 13 Feb

Congress MLC Ramesh Babu wrote to the Bengaluru Commissioner of Police, seeking to register a complaint against BJP MLA Sunil Kumar and MLC Ravikumar for allegedly creating and circulating a fake transfer letter that bore the name of the Chief Minister.

The letter claimed that a district health and family welfare officer in Mandya had been posted as deputy commissioner of excise in Mysuru.

In his letter to the police, Babu alleged that the BJP members shared the fake document on social media. The document was allegedly dated 2024. Babu said that Kumar and Ravikumar used the fake document to level false allegations of corruption against the Chief Minister.

“The circulated letter is completely forged and has been created with malicious intent,” Babu wrote, noting that “the absence of an official date and reference number clearly establishes that it is a fabricated document.”

He said the BJP members sought to mislead the public through false propaganda, which amounts to attempted character assassination.

He sought a case to be registered for forgery of government/public documents, defamation, criminal conspiracy, among other charges, under various sections ofthe BNS. He also urged the police to conduct a forensic investigation.

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) also urged the police to register a case. Police later registered a case against an "unknown person".
